The Maryland food-system mapping tool is designed to assist local food leaders and educators with understanding the current landscape of Maryland’s food system from farm-to-plate. This interactive, GIS-based mapping tool and database does an exemplary job, allowing users to overlay layers of data on a map to examine Maryland’s food system including how food is grown, processed, distributed, sold, and consumed. Though your team may not have the resources to create a tool such as this, it provides an excellent example of the types of data that can be compiled and displayed from secondary sources.
